About Free Online File Tools

Free Online File Tools is a collection of free, everyday tools — redacting and signing PDFs, making passport photos, converting images to SVG, generating legal documents and creating subtitles — built around one rule: your files never leave your device.

Why we built it

Many simple tasks have become subscriptions. Signing a PDF, removing a background or captioning a video often means creating an account, uploading private files to an unknown server, and then discovering a watermark or a paywall at the last step.

Modern browsers can do far more than they used to. With WebAssembly, WebGPU and compact open-source AI models, the same work that used to require a server can happen on your own laptop or phone. That’s better for privacy, and it means we don’t have large server bills to pass on to you.

How it works

When you open a tool, your browser downloads the code (and, for some tools, an AI model) needed to do the job. Your files are then processed locally, in memory. Nothing you open is sent to us. You can test this yourself: load a tool, switch off your internet connection, and it will keep working.

How we keep it free

The site shows a small number of ads, kept beside or below the tools and never on top of them, and may include clearly labelled affiliate links. We may add an optional paid tier in future for extras like batch processing, but the core tools will stay free, without sign-ups or watermarks.

Open source inside

These tools stand on the shoulders of excellent open-source projects, including pdf.js, pdf-lib, Tesseract.js, Whisper and transformers.js, ffmpeg.wasm, MediaPipe and VTracer. Thank you to everyone who maintains them.
